Macerated in rum for two days, the dried fruit should taste better than the jellied mess found in stores. The cakes will be basted (sprayed) with brandy every three days and given to family (and a friend or two) for Christmas.
Always, always, always examine food labels. I bought this turkey, got it home, then realized the best-by date was for January 2020, not 2021. It would’ve been fine but for a $60 turkey, I don’t want last year’s reruns. The store happily accepted the return and I ordered a fresh turkey from another grocery chain.
For the first time ever, I cured then smoked a pork belly and made my own bacon. Curing took ten days and then hickory-smoked for two hours. It was the most delicious bacon I’ve ever eaten.
